Oil & Acrylic on canvas board
Here we have a beekeeper tending to their bees in baubles (love that word). I hope you enjoy! Please feel free to critique- improvement I could have made
For the past couple of weeks I have been taking a bee class to become a certified beekeeper! Bees are some of the most efficient and diverse pollinators around. Most recently I have been learning about our use of pesticides- in particular Neonics, that have been a cause of colony collapse. As a matter of fact, I interviewed for a volunteer position as a Campus Coordinator for Friends of the Earth- a non-profit focusing on different environmental missions. I hope that I get the position; I would love to be a part of the team to implement policies around my school.
In this painting I really experienced a limit (of both tools and patience) to what I can do right now. I had tried to plan out the colours using colour pencils beforehand. This helped in creating the baubles and really planning out where the light was going to hit, but not much help with accurate colour on the character. I also had some issues painting the hand- it was a really nice drawing, but I am not that great at the art of abstracting quite yet!
